Joanna Newsom, the pure and strikingly voiced harpist whose sprawling music has earned her international fame, will return to Australia in March. Already announced for Golden Plains Festival and Perth International Arts Festival, we are pleased to announce her appearance on Womadelaide. Joanna will also play a series of special performances in our most devoted music spaces – Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre, Sydney’s City Recital Hall Angel Place and the Melbourne Recital Centre with the accompaniment of her six-piece band.

Writing songs that could have been composed in any decade, Newsom has crafted a body of work which sounds like none other. Drawing on American folk, old-time parlor tunes, rococo and baroque-tinged orchestration, her live performances are delicate, measured and commanding – at times delivered with the sound and scope of an orchestra, and at others captivating in their sparse and resonant silences.

Joanna Newsom appears around the country including her debut Perth appearance at the Perth International Arts Festival, the just announced  Golden Plains Festival in Victoria, and her debut Adelaide appearance at WOMADelaide.

This is also a rare opportunity to experience Joanna’s stately songs in Australia’s premier and most music friendly venues. The expansive Van Dyke Parks’ compositions of 2008’s Ys and the energetic, flourishing arrangements of this year’s Have One On Me are set to take flight at the hands of Newsom’s full band, featuring drums, guitar, piano and strings.

2011’s Have One On Me tour will cast a light on each and every one of the musical intricacies that Newsom’s music from its outset, has begged us to explore.

Tour is co-presented with Spunk Records.
