"Deerhoof are the best band out there right now. They are better than your favorite band. If your favorite band is Deerhoof, they are better than you think."
Pitchfork
"A force of nature, obliterating and oddly nurturing...an aesthetic assault as sneaky as it is fundamentally devastating."
The Wire
"Sensationally exhausting, eminently diggable"
Mojo
"They're amazing."
Matt Groening, The Simpsons
One of the most inventive bands of our time, this San Francisco based quartet have been redefining pop conventions for over ten years.
They head to Australia for the very first time in February 2006 to promote their latest album, The Runners Four (Trifekta). The seventh release in their discography, this record has been heralded as their finest effort to date.
Deerhoof have developed an unmistakable sound that revels in contradiction, creating disjointed melodies over the sweetest explosions of noise. Japanese born Satomi Matsuzaki sings her idiosyncratic lyrics in a distinctive soprano voice while Chris Cohen and John Dieterich play dualing guitar lines over Greg Saunier’s frenetic drumming. With fluctuating tempos and weird harmonies, this is pop music at its most unpredictable.
There is a mania attached to witnessing a Deerhoof live show. It is not surprising then, that the band have been invited to tour with the likes of Wilco, Sonic Youth and most recently, The Roots. They have become regulars on All Tomorrow’s Parties and are passionately championed by Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Even Matt Groaning of The Simpsons loves Deerhoof!
Bound to be considered one of the most iconoclastic bands of our generation, Deerhoof finally make it out to Australia for a short run of dates.
The Runners Four is out now thru Trifekta Records/Shock.
